AIM Herbal Fibre Blend® (AIM Herbal Fiberblend®) Info

Digestive problems comprise the number one health problem in western societies. Our bodies are becoming increasingly polluted with toxins found in the environment and in the foods we eat.

Getting adequate fibre and cleansing, or detoxifying, are two often overlooked elements of maintaining not only diges¬tive health but also whole body health.

Fibre
Fibre (US spelling 'fiber') has long been recognised as one of the best food ingredients for maintaining bowel regularity and preventing constipation, and because it normalises bowel movements, it can also be used to treat and manage chronic diarrhoea.

Professor Denis Burkitt
Professor Denis Burkitt of Dublin University is considered the grandfather of dietary fibre research. After driving through Africa for many years studying native diets, he emphasised in his 1979 book, Don't Forget Fibre in your Diet, that low fibre in the diet was an indication of future bowel cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

Burkitt's studies showed that primitive diets (the diet our body is designed to eat) protected native Africans from most diseases and he also found that natives passed 2-4 times more fibre than the typical western diet in the 1970s. Today's typical western diet contains much less fibre than 40 years ago.

Fibre's Benefits
Consuming fibre reduces transit time by giving the faeces substance to push against during peristalsis (snake-like movement of the colon) and results in a more thorough evacuation of waste materials. It's thought to improve all aspects of colon function. Fibre is found only in fruits and plants and not in animal products. Fibre is an indigestible complex carbohydrate, therefore adds few (if any) calories to the diet. There are two main types of fibre - insoluble and water-soluble. Both types of fibre are required in the daily diet, in the recommended ratio of 3:1 insoluble fibre to water-soluble fibre. AIM Herbal Fiberblend® and AIM Fit 'n Fiber®* contains this correct ratio so it's easy to maintain balance.

Insoluble Fibre
Insoluble fibre cannot be dissolved in water, meaning that our bodies cannot digest it. This type of fibre includes the un-dissolvable parts of plant walls and is found in its greatest amounts in cereals, bran and vegetables. The primary function of insoluble fibre is to collect water that increases stool bulk in the colon. This promotes bowel movement, and when the bulk faeces works through the intestine, it scours the intestinal walls of waste matter, reducing the risk of colon-related problems.

Water-Soluble Fibre
Water-soluble fibre dissolves in water and is found in oat bran, legumes, psyllium, nuts, beans, pectin, and various fruits and vegetables. It forms a bulky gel in the intestine that regulates the flow of waste materials through the digestive tract. Water-soluble fibre may lower cholesterol by preventing the re-absorption of bile acids. Bile acids are made from cholesterol, and after they aid fat digestion, fibre binds with them and escorts them out of the body through the anus. The liver then has to pull more cholesterol from the blood.

Water-soluble fibre may also stabilise blood sugar by slowing down the absorption of carbohydrates into the blood. Plus, it can lower blood sugar levels. Researchers have found that increasing fibre intake results in a decrease in the body's need for insulin. Psyllium supplementation in particular, has been shown to improve blood sugar levels in diabetics.

How Much Fibre?
For adults who are 50 years and younger, the recommendation for total fibre intake is 38 g per day for men and 25 g per day for women. For adults over 50 years of age, the recommendation is 30 g per day for men and 21 g per day for women, and children around half that amount.

Studies have found that in populations with high fibre diets, the incidences of colon cancer, appendicitis, and diverticulitis are very low. Industrialised countries, which largely have diets high in fat and sugar and low in fibre, have high incidences of these diseases. Because fibre is low in calories, it can be added to your diet, providing a greater feeling of satiety (feeling satisfied, full) without significantly increasing your caloric intake.

AIM Herbal FiberBlend®

AIM Herbal FiberBlend® (HFB) is the original proprietary blend of herbs and fibre that numerous companies have endeavoured to emulate with limited success. HFB was formulated over 20 years ago by Teresa Schumacher and her daughter Toni Lund in response to the chronic constipation problem the population was experiencing at that time, and the problem continues today to a larger degree.

Herbal FiberBlend® helps the body resolve constipation issues through the use of both soluble and insoluble Psyllium fibre combined with 19 herbs.

Because fibre is low in calories, it can be added to your diet, providing a greater feeling of satiety without significantly increasing your caloric intake. The fibre found in fruits and plants serves as a source of complex carbohydrate, which most nutritionists consider to be a healthy choice. In addition, fibre's ability to stabilise blood sugar may also curb the desire to snack. In other words, you may find yourself eating less. This is beneficial in weight-loss programs.

AIM Herbal FiberBlend® also assists your body to detoxify by relieving constipation and becoming more regular in bowel movements. It's important to drink plenty of water to assist HFB to do its work and remove toxins.

AIM Herbal FiberBlend® comes in two flavours, natural and Raspberry.
